    Need help modifying IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH... formula)

My question is in reference to a problem that was previously solved: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-form...om-a-cell.html

I hate to ask a dumb question, but ow do you modify this formula? Every time I try to change the search words, Navigational gets returned for every keyword.

For example, if I wanted to change the Informational search words in the attached workbook.

Work search words: features, benefits, pros and cons, pros, cons, info, information, specs, specifications, details

Search words I'd like to use: "features", "how to", "ways to", "what is", "how", "info", "information", "details", "accessories", "where", "tips", "what", "do", "features", "how", "ways"

One final question on this....Instead of writing every word in the formula, could I just use a cell reference? I could put all of my words in a cell, so I could change them as needed.

    Any help would gladly appreciated.

    Thanks so much.

Yes, it is possible to do, but you should probably re-format it to make life easier. I'd suggest making your table of keywords and their categories on a separate tab, and the really important part here, is to make each keyword its own cell, rather than a list in a single cell. That way, you can add/remove words easily and simply without affecting your formula nearly as much. I'd also suggest making it an actual list down, instead of across, as it makes life easier for most people.

Once you do that, you'd be modifying the cell range instead of adding/deleting words from your formula (or we could use a dynamic named range if you plan to tweak it a lot).

I'll give it a shot if that sounds like something that could work for you.

    Hi TheN,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. What you're describing sounds interesting.

If your way is simpler, I'd definitely want to go with that. The main thing for me is the flexibility to change/add new inputs into the formula.

Try this one. I used named ranges, which then forced me to array enter your formula to make it work.

Just double click it down to have it update for you.

You should be able to add cells to your lists without having to update anything if I did it correctly. Let me know if any issues.

If you need to update the original array formula, remember to re-enter it with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER or it will not work. You can tell it is array entered by the curly brackets { } that enclose it. You cannot enter those manually for it to work.

    Thanks TheN,

Unfortunately I'm not getting the result that i want when I input my new data. Can you take a look and see
how I am screwing this up. The info is in the UK tab.

    Thanks!

    Honestly, I don't know.

It is updating the named range correctly, and it should work as before, but for some reason it isn't changing them...I'll have to rework the logic so it is more reliable maybe.

I'll toy around with it when I get some more time, hopefully someone else can help you before then.
