I am doing a copy and paste special values only. I am copying 12 rows by approx. 87 columns. I hi-lite those rows/columns and do a paste special but after that action the receiving area still contains the formulas.
I've tried several times and keep getting the same result. I've done paste special values many times and this never occurred, so am at a loss as to how to proceed.

Are you certain you're not accidentally selecting Formulas or Formats from the Paste Special Menu ?
They're all right next to each other.
I do it all the time myself.
I am sure I did not select formulas or formats, however I did find what I was doing wrong. After the past special I was hitting enter to get rid of the cell selection of the source cells. Now I'm not sure how to de-select the source cells. One way I found is to do a file save - do you know another way.

You can just select any other cell to de-select the copied range.
Interesting, I never knew that..
It seems after copying a range, simply pressing enter invokes a plain old paste (full paste, with formats, formulas everything).
So what you need to do...
Copy the source range
Paste as Values to your destination (DO NOT PRESS ENTER)
Press ESC to clear the clipboard.
Then move along with whaver your next task is.
Interesting I did not know that the escape would clear the Clipboard
What I always did was
_1 ) Copy the source range
_2 ) Paste as Values to your destination (DO NOT PRESS ENTER)
_ 3 ) Select any other EMPTY cell
_4 ) Hit Enter
( Strange - If you select any cell that is not empty at _ 3) and then Hit Enter, then the value from the Clipboard is pasted in )

Ok, thanks, I was able to select any other cell and hit the space bar which did de-select. Then I tried the esc key and that also did de-select.

It certainly is a bit weird, - I had a quick look at what happens taking a macro recording while doing the various Copy and paste actions discussed here.
_1) ' Hit Enter after either
a Range Copy Method and Worksheets Paste Method
or
after a Range Copy Method and Range PasteSpecial Method
_ Result :
A worksheets Paste Method is done and then the Clipboard is emptied.
_2) ' Click on a Blank Cell and Hit Enter after doing a Worksheets Paste Method or Range Paste Special Method
_Result:
Clipboard is emptied
_3) ' Click on a non Blank Cell and Hit Enter after doing a Worksheets Paste Method or Range Paste Special Method
_ Result :
A worksheets Paste Method is done and then the Clipboard is emptied.
_4) ' Hit Esc Anytime
_ Result:
Clipboard is emptied
I have no idea to the logic behind the first 3

As I mentioned, not worth taking this one much further – it is crazy what goes on with the Clipboard.
Would be nice to be able to “see” all the versions of a copy that are there.. I expect that can be done ??
