Calculations in Two Cells Based on Each Other

A1
A2 B2

I am trying to come up with a formula for A1 and A2 to calculate the following.

If A1 is zero then subtract all of B2 from A2, if A2 is zero then subtract all of B2 from A1, if both A1 and A2 are greater than zero then subtract half of B2 from both A1 and A2.

Does that make sense?

You cannot put both a value and formula in same cell: you need VBA if you want results in A1 and A2.

....... and as pointed out by Ford in the following post the result could be an endless loop.

Re: Calculations in Two Cells Based on Each Other

If I understand you correctly, you want a cell to base a calc on itself?

If so, then no, you cannot do that, it will create a circ reference error (well you can, but you then need to control the endless loop that would result.)

If that was not what you wanted, please try to explain again, and show some sample data and answers?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: Calculations in Two Cells Based on Each Other

I guess I will have to do some calculating in hidden columns to get the result I need in A1 and A2.
Thanks.
