Simple formula removed....result shown instead

Sometimes when I put a simple function in Excel the result is shown in the formula bar rather than the actual function.

Anyone know why?

I attached a screen image since it's only sometimes in the file (I tried putting parantheses around it and multiplying by 1 to see if that would help); I tried a new Excel file and it wasn't doing it.

In the attached image I entered: 1858/2
When I go back to the cell it just shows 929

It only does it with simple math.
I like when the function is shown because when I show/discuss the data I can refer to the specific number (1858 is a number that is just taken from another file)

If you simply type 1858/2 in a cell, you will see just that. Excel doesn't know it is a formula unless the first character is an = sign.

Thus =1858/2 in the formula bar will show 929 in the cell.
