Formula Help: Vlookup with variable table array based on cell value

I'll try to lay out what I'm looking for and what I'm working with in hopes of getting advice:

I have a table that contains 3 months of trending information across several metric points. Each of these months are contained in an individual file, named with the same file path and the only difference is the month and date at the end. Is there a way to utilize this functionality into a vlookup or hlookup formula to pull in information for each individual file based on the month and metric as a reference point? Specifically, I started working with INDIRECT but the files cannot be kept open while pulling in this data, so is there another/better way?
