Hello - I have a workbook where the data validation boxes are allowing free form values. I think the issue is that some of the list are dependent on other lists, i.e. if there is not a value in one list, then the second list will not drop down. This works fine, but somehow disables the error alert even though the box is checked in the data validation box. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Not saying that I can offer help with the data validation issue, however it might be easier for someone to help if you would upload a sample spreadsheet(s) that shows the problem that you are encountering. To upload a sample spreadsheet click on the GO ADVANCED button below the Quick Reply window and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window. Remember to desensitize the data if necessary.

Thank you. Here is an example of the lists. You'll note the task will not become accessible until a category is selected. Once selections have been made, they cannot be overwritten with free text as the error box displays. However, if there is not a selection, then free text can be entered without getting an error.
