If cell contains text "Labour" then return value from another cell.

Good Day; This is my first post, so please forgive me if I don't quite get my point across right.
I'm trying to set up a simple formula with column "J"; that whenever I enter labour in column "C"; it gives me a total in column "J". I have tried {=IF(C6="Labour",G6+H6,) } or {=IF(C6="Labour",I6,,) with no luck.
I would like the labour cell to show either the sub total or add G6 and H6. But I just can't make it work.
    Any Useful suggestions?
Thanks for taking the time consider this.

Good day and Thank you scottiex for your reply. The formula works; I have been trying to solve this for over three weeks now. I know I could add a couple of columns to do the something; it just bugged me that I couldn't figure out something. Thank you for taking the time to look at this, I would never would have thought of the "trim" function. It was never suggested on any of the Excel tutorials sites.
