in cells f3:i3 time and checkpoint name
in cells j3:m3 time and checkpoint name
in cells n3:q3 time and checkpoint name
in cells r3:u3 time and checkpoint name
in cells v3:y3 time and checkpoint name
z3 total marathon time/kid

all must be horizontal
rest of cell is for picture from marathon

The following solution assumes that:

1. Each block of times/Checkpoints apply to a single individual.
2. The times are in chronological order left to right, top to bottom.

Please find the following worked out in row 4. Just change the references to reflect row 3.
To return the times:
In F3

then copy that cell and paste into cells H3, J3, L3 ... X3.

To return the checkpoints.
In G3 array enter this formula

If you aren’t familiar with array-entered formulas array enter means the formula must be committed from edit mode by simultaneously pressing and holding down Ctrl and Shift while hitting Enter.

For the sum of times array enter this in Z3.

The "+" is necessary. The OFFSET defined range must be coerced into an array.
