# IF formula not working because cell has a formula in it (IF and LEFT FORMULA)

1. ## IF formula not working because cell has a formula in it (IF and LEFT FORMULA)

I'm trying to pull the first three letters from a cell, and then with that use an IF formula. I was able to successfully pull the first three letters out, but when I use an IF formula in another cell it's giving me the false value, even when it's true.
I'm assuming because the cell I'm referencing is from a formula. I could put the two formulas together, but I wasn't sure how to blend them into one.

In column D, I need to use 25 for PT, 40 for FT and 15 for LPT.

in D1 it should say 25, but it's pulling the false of 40. Register To Reply

You're pulling the first 3 characters, which includes a space at the end. You can use:

=TRIM(LEFT(F1,3))

to remove the unnecessary space. Register To Reply

Formula in E1 is =LEFT(F1,2), not =LEFT(F1,3) Register To Reply
