Welcome to the forum!
You have not given enough information for anyone to understand what you are trying to do. What is the expected result?

the weekly cost is in column A, column B is the start date and column C is the end date (which will change on a daily basis) so I need to calculate how much it will have cost (between the two dates(which could be multiple weeks)):confused
So what is the result you are expecting in D? Is it C minus B divided by 7 and multiplied by A? If so, try this:
=A2*((C2-B2)/7)
sorry that doesnt seem to workAttachment 619317
the cost in the end column should be £10 as it is only one week?
You have not copied the formula correctly. The parenthesis is crucial:
=A1*((C1-B1)/7)
excel auto corrected it, as attachedAttachment 619321
Attach the workbook. I cannot troubleshoot an image. It works as expected here, so you are doing something wrong.
your file not open. Kindly re-attach

There is no file attached (yet) - only an image (which does open).
I have no way of attaching the workbook, there is no attach icon.
The image that I sent was from Microsoft Excel saying that it had found an error in the formula that had been entered ND THAT IT SHOULD BE =A1*((C1-B1/7))!!!!
Yes, you can attach the workbook - please do so now.
Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
Excel does not try to correct my formula when I copy and paste it as I typed it in the posts above, therefore you must be copying it incorrectly.
There is no need to SHOUT.ND THAT IT SHOULD BE =A1*((C1-B1/7))!!!!

ok, lets hope this works
Thank you. As I have said, the formula has been entered incorrectly. Here's your workbook with it entered correctly:
Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
A B C D 1 £10.00 02/04/2019 09/04/2019 £10.00
Sheet: Sheet1
Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
D 1 =A1*((C1-B1)/7)
Sheet: Sheet1
Please see the file attached with the formula above in place.
thank you sooooooooooooo much
You're welcome. In future, please ensure that you copy and paste formulae you are offered - typing them yourself can lead to errors.
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
Sorry, when I add the correct formula in to the spreadsheet that I am working on, it works fine where I have end dates but where I have no dates in yet it is giving me a minus number......is this right
Yes, because you asked for a formula that worked with end dates!
Try this instead:
=IF(F4="","",B4*((F4-D4)/7))
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
