keep a value/formula locked in a particular cell

    Hello,

this probably is a newbie question, but I've used my knowledge and searched the net for an answer and didn't find it.

I have 2 documents (document A and B) On both documents, but particularly document A, I am only allowed to change small things, I am not the owner of these documents (workenvironment).

Document A has a column X with numbers that gives a sum on cell X192. This sum is being used in document B. The problem occurs when people insert rows in document A, so the sum is not longer at cell X192, but cell X193, therefore document B works with wrong values.

I tried locking the cell, but no avail

I tried making a table but no difference.

Is there anybody here who has a solution for this problem

    thanks

    thomas

Re: keep a value/formula locked in a particular cell

    Hi there,

In workbook A, define a Named Range (e.g. ptrTotalCost) which refers to Cell X192, and then use this Named Range (instead of X192) as the reference in workbook B.

Hope this helps - please let me know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Greg M

If the figure that you want is the last numeric value in the column then =LOOKUP(1e+100,X:X) would work.
