Extracting Maximum value from a table by using index match formula or some other formula

    Dear,

Can any one help me by providing formula (index-match-max) or any other combination for the below scenario:

    Area A B C D
    X 21 24 25 29
    Y 13 13 15 16
    Z 14 15 17 20
    Y 15 17 21 22
    X 26 18 23 32

    Area X
    Section D
    Max ??

    Need only formula no macros.

    Thanks

Hi. Next time, please read the yellow banner at the top of the screen... and post a sample sheet.

    =MAX(IF($A$2:$A$6=B10,IF($B$1:$E$1=B11,$B$2:$E$6)))

This is an array formula. Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...

Yes. But you have not told me which row is equivalent to Area and which column is equivalent to Section.

    I'm not a mind reader!!
