# Formula Using Sumif or Sumproduct and If statement

1. ## Formula Using Sumif or Sumproduct and If statement

Hello All,

I need a formula that will look at 3 columns of data and return a sum based on the following understanding:

If C1 is blank, look at A1 + B1 and return a sum; otherwise, return the value in column C1. I need it to do this down the entire column and return the total sum. Essentially, columns A1 and B1 are budget numbers and C1 will be the actual number once I have identified it. C1 will trump A1 + B1 at that point.

Column A Column B Column C Answer
125 362 = 487
50 623 = 623
450 =450
500 750 =750

sum total = 2,310 Register To Reply

Formula: `Please Login or Register to view this content.`

Then use SUM in the bottom row for the total.

Or are you saying that you don't want to actually show the "Answer" column? Register To Reply

@Chavez000 - your user profile is probably out-of-date - please update it with your current version of Excel. Thanks! Register To Reply

Hi Jazzer,

the formula you propose would require another column. I dont want a column with each row calculation shown. I want a formula that looks down all 3 columns, performs the calculation and returns the sum in one cell. Register To Reply

If it's an issue this will calculate faster.
