I have been given the task of managing the office football scores prediction table for the next year.
The general scoring rules are:
Correct result - 1 point
Correct result with exact score - 2 points
Incorrect result - 0 points
So in the example attached, the result was 5-1
User 1 predicted 5-1 and scores 2 points for correct result and score
User 2 predicted 2-1 and scores 1 point for correct result
User 3 predicted 0-0 and scores 0 points for incorrect result
So instead of me having to enter the points manually every time, I want to try and find a formula that can analyse the result and automatically enter the correct points value.
I've being trying for hours but have had to concede defeat and ask you good folk with better skills than I.
I wanted to attach a basic sample spreadsheet but for reasons that I cannot fathom, clicking the attachment button only draws a black box around this entry, so it's difficult to mock something up using text. Entries in parentheses. I hope it makes sense.
So:
Column A - Home Team Name (Liverpool)
Column B - Home Team Score (5)
Column C - Away Team Score (1)
Column D - Away Team Name (Arsenal)
Column E - Blank
Column F - Predictor 1 Home Score (5)
Column G - Predictor 1 Away Score (1)
Column H - Predictor 1 Awarded Points (2)
Column I - Predictor 2 Home Score (2)
Column J - Predictor 2 Away Score (1)
Column K - Predictor 2 Awarded Points (1)
Column L - Predictor 3 Home Score (3)
Column M - Predictor 3 Away Score (3)
Column N - Predictor 3 Awarded Points (0)
