Pulling data from one worksheet into another using a unique identifier cell

    Hi,

I have a very basic understanding of excel, I studied with formulas for a few months back at college but that was 13 years ago. I now use google to refresh my head.

Unfortunately I've come stuck, this next thing is completely throwing me off.

Basically I have one spreadsheet called 'Inventory' that lists out individual items in rows, in column 'B' I have put a description of the item and in column 'G' I have assigned a unique code for the item.

I have a second spreadsheet called 'sales' where I will put in column 'A' a matching unique code for any item I have sold.

I would then like to be able to produce the items description in worksheet 'Sales' in column 'B' by matching the unique codes.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum, neighbour!

    INDEX MATCH will work:

    =INDEX(Inventory!B:B,MATCH(A2,Inventory!G:G,0))
