Exclamation lookup all the columns with certain word, extract the value, sum

    Hi All,

First post here, apricate the help.

In the attached image, i would like to add a formula to B25 that will look up the word sales in row 24 then get the value from row 25 for the sales column. then add up those numbers. I have done it simply by just adding g25 + k25 but as i add more and more columns to the sheet, i just want it to add this up automatically.

If this need a better explanation, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    James

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 non-editable pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet.

You can use this formula in B3:

    =SUMIF($F$2:$Y$2,B$2,$F3:$Y3)

then copy across to E3, then copy those 4 formulae down as required. You can change the Y to suit however many columns you have.

    Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Re: lookup all the columns with certain word, extract the value, sum

So Awesome. Seems so simple but if you don't know the functions fundamentally, it can be hard to figure out what to use and when to use it.

    Worked perfectly.

Really appreciate the help Pete. Legend.
