It might help if we know something about where you are starting. When I was first learning spreadsheets (long before I started using Excel specifically), there were two main hurdles I recall jumping:
1) Basics of formula building -- in particular how to use relative and absolute references for easy duplication of formulas (see MSFT's overview here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...3-c311f47ca173 ).
2) Wading through the massive list of available built in functions (the one AliGW linked to) to find and become familiar with the built in functions that could help me in my work. This was particularly frustrating for me, trying to do math/science/engineering calculations, because all of the examples I could easily find were for business/finance type calculations. It was a long slow tedious slog through the list of functions to find those that were useful to me (or to determine that there wasn't a built in function for what I wanted).
If you're a beginner's beginner, those are the two main upslopes I recall in my early learning curve. I think those two things will give you a good start in spreadsheet programming.
