Drop Down with YES choice but Changes to a check Mark

    Great day everyone!!

In a cell I have a drop down list that has the choice of YES. Is there a formula that when this word is chosen that a check mark is shown instead of YES.

Currently if I change the cell to show the "Wingdings 2" font, the drop down "YES" word shows as characters, obviously. So, if possible, I need a conditional format formula that will change the font to Wingdings 2 and the "YES" word to "P".

I know what I need...I just don't know how to write the formula, if it's even possible. Can anyone advise or assist?

    Thank you
    Teresa

Conditional formatting can't change the actual value in the cell. In fact, no formula can change the value in a cell that has been entered by a user. Also icon conditional formatting, which can give you a checkmark, can be used on numbers only, not text. One way to solve this would be with a macro.

What are all the values in your dropdown besides YES? If those are chosen, do you want to just show those words, with nothing else special?

Re: Drop Down with YES choice but Changes to a check Mark

Unfortunately, I can't use a Macro or SQL coding due to computer restrictions.

The drop down list will only show YES and NO, (I figured I could figure the NO part out once I got the Yes formula). I wanted to show a check mark in green when yes is chosen and "X" in red for when NO was chosen.

Could I pull those marks from another cell (hidden to the user) when YES/NO is chosen from the drop down? Ugh, I'm pretty sure I answered my own question. lol. I appreciate your help.

it never fails to amaze me companies attitude towards macros etc.,
if the code is written in by your own IT department far safer than most commercial software packages.
ignorance by management deprives the company of employee efficiency.

Give this version a try. It's the best I can think of without macros. This allows selection in one cell, uses a white font so you don't see it, and uses another cell to turn it into a numeric value and use conditional formatting to show a check or an X.

Brilliant! This will have to be the route I take. Thank you for your innovative thinking!
