Date not recognised in Date formatted column (sample file attached) Excel 2007

Hi there,

I have an issue on a spreadsheet where the data in the cell (the date) was split from the year by a "carriage return". I susbstitued the CR with a space using a formula in a new column. Then copied over the values into the date column.
The issue is that when I change the date format display for the column, nothing happens.
I'm assuming the data in the date column is not "seen" as a date..

Can someone help.
