Lightbulb Excel stubbornly will not return value of cell (UNLESS FILE IS SAVED)

I am a fairly experienced Excel user, and this one has me puzzled.

    Picture1.png

Formula in row 2 should simply return the values from the first row. About the easiest Excel manoeuvre known to mankind. All values are formatted as numbers. Yet it returns only the first value. This has just started to happen to me and is affecting both old and new spreadsheets.

    Anyone seen this before?

AHA!! Heads up folks, it fixed itself once I saved the file before trying to attach it to this post. Okay, so I will mark this solved, but consider this a bug. All your calculation MAY BE WRONG until you hit save. Not exactly a heartwarming Christmas gift, I know.

    Cheers,
    HM

Maybe you had the calculation mode set to Manual - it will recalculate before saving.

    Hope this helps.

Well holy macaroni... I did not even know this was a thing. Sure thing, it was set to manual.

    (facepalm)

    Thanks Pete.

If you open a file which has the calculation mode set to Manual, then this will apply to all other files that are opened in the same Excel session, i.e. until you close Excel or change the setting to Automatic.

So you should change to Automatic mode and then save the file.

Hope this helps, and thanks for the rep.

    Pete
