Deduct '1', every time a name appears in a range of cells

    Screenshot 2023-01-25 082051.jpg

Is there a way to Deduct '1', every time a name appears in a range of cells, from the number corresponding to their name in another range of cells?
In the attachment, the range of cells is 'Machinists', and the number to deduct '1' from, is 'Wkd Off Points' in red, next to each person's name. (all the numbers start at 26 at the beginning of the year, and '1' is deducted each time their name appears in the 'Machinists' range.

    I'm doing this manually now

Very grateful for any help you can provide -

The row that starts with 'Machinist in the upper left, under Sorted By (X) is Row 2.

It would help if you attached a sample Excel workbook, rather than a picture of one. See the yellow banner at the top of the screen for details of how to do this.

    Try

    in C2 and copy down

    =26-COUNTIF($I$2:$X$27,$A2)
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.

Thank you, this does work very well, except everyone whose number should be '25' still shows as '26'?

You will nver match "Andrade (L)" with "Antrade" so you need to be consistent with the names.
