Pivot Table Source Data Errors

I am trying to create a pivot table with ~30,000 rows of data by 10 columns. I am getting error that indicates:

"a field in your source data has more unique items than can be used in a Pivot Table".

Is there a way around this? Basically I am trying to accomplish 2 things.

1 - count the number of unique items in column F
2 - create a new sheet that only contains unique items.

I think I figured out how to display the uniques by just using a vlookup but I still can't figure a way around the error I am getting with the pivot table.

BTW...my company is still using excel 2000 if that makes a difference.
