    Select rows of data to average base upon data being populated in adjacent cell

    I am looking for a formula that I could put into a single cell below FY10, that would give me the average of the numbers for the same time frame as any numbers input into the adjacent column for FY11. The data for FY11 comes from a separate worksheet. This formula should also ignore zeros and the entire column includes 52 rows of data. So in this sample, the answer for the first two rows is 1218. However, once the 3rd row below FY11 is populated, then the average should look to the first 3 rows for FY10, and so forth for 52 rows.

    Any assistance from anyone would be greatly appreciated, as I'm somewhat of a novice at Excel Programming. Thanks.

    Hi Reeboker,
    Welcome to the forum.

    It would help us greatly if you gave us a sample of your spreadsheet so we could see what you have. It is a lot easier to give back an answer when we have a sample. To do this click on the Green Edit and then "Go Advanced" below the message area. Then click on the paperclip to upload a sample file.

    With a sample file we are much more likely work with your problem.

    Hi Reeboker,

    I'm sorry but I can't open your attached file. It gives me a message that it can't find something in it?

    Very weird...I don't have any links to anything else in here. I'll try it again. Thanks so much.

    @Reeboker

    I can open the file ok - I *think* you're referring to the formulae in row 57, is the correct ?

    The approach you have will work but you need to tweak the references slightly as you're including rows you shouldn't be and also offsetting unnecessarily

    However, it would I think be better I think to use:
