[SOLVED] Help with multiple IF functions and possible lookup functions.

    Hey guys,

Still getting to grips with formulas here and wondering if you can help.

I'll try and describe the situation as best I can.

I have 5 (A-E) columns and I'm working on filling colum E, which will be an average of some selected values in the other columns

For E2 for example, I need it to look through column A and find any values equal to that of A2, from those rows which are true (equal) I need it to look in column C and find values equal to those in C2, for those which are true to both these (there should be three) I then need it to look in repective cells in column D, sum them and then divide by 3, thus getting the average of those involved.

If I haven't explained this very well, or more clarification is needed let me know. Otherwise any help would be much appreshiated!

    Cheers.

    Re: forumla help!

englishfellow, welcome to the forum. You're more likely to get a solution if you upload a small sample workbook, which demonstrates what you've outlined above.

...Also pls, take a few minutes and read the forum rules,because...

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

Re: Help with multiple IF functions and possible lookup functions.

    Good man, thanks for that.

I hope you don't think I'm being pedantic, as I'm not, but Columns do not have numbers in Excel - they are identified by letters; and rows are identified with numbers. So I think that when you say "5B", the cell you're referring to is actually "E2", and I'm sure you can see how that may lead to confusion.

Could you clarify, please? Perhaps with an example answer in Cell E2, which (again) is where I think you want your answer?

    Thank you.

Yeah sorry, this hasn't got off to a great start.

I've edited the origional post so it should make (more) sense now.

    Here's an example for E2:

It should output '14.33' by summing values of '16', '25' and '2' from cells D2, D12 and D22 respectively and then dividing this by 3.

Thanks for your patience by the way, much appreshiated.
