Cell color change when budget is reached but each row based on different values

    Hi!

I'm working on doing a comparison table of allocated budget vs actual cost of different people per item. Basically, I want to see which item each person has spent more than what was allocated to them. I have a number of items each with its allocated budget and I want the cell or text to change color every time a person spends more than the allocation per item. For example, if person 1 (EE1 in the excel file attached) spent 30 and allocated budget is only 20, then the cell containing actual cost should change color.

I've tried conditional formatting (cell turns red if cell value of actual cost is greater than cell value of allocated budget), but I need something which I can duplicate the formula to all the cells.

    Help please?

hi RSC, welcome to the forum. if i understand correctly, select the range you want to apply to (from C4:E7)
go to Home -> Conditional Formatting -> New Rule -> Use a formula to determine which cells to format -> Format values where this formula is true:
    =C4>$B4

    format colour desired

Thanks, if you have clicked on the * and added our rep.
