Ranking the same text values in a list

    Hi all,

I have a rather large dataset, I'm using one column in the data set and inserting a "Yes" if the particular row is something I want to pull to another sheet. I'm trying to tag each of these rows via a numerical v lookup. E.g.

Column 1 (tag) Column 2 (vlookup key)
    - -
    - -
    Yes 1
    - -
    Yes 2

How do I accomplish something like that? I basically need to rank all the "Yes" in that particular column so each has a unique # value.

    Many thanks in advance

hi mljs54. not really seeing the whole picture, but assuming data in A2, try this in B2:
    =COUNTIF(A$2:A2,"yes")

    drag the formula down
