Hi Guys,
I can normally find a solution on this fantastic forum, however today I need to ask for your expertise! I am self taught and not a whiz with macros but can manipulate them with instructions :-)
PROBLEM:
I have a MASSIVE excel sheet where I need to replace varying parts of text strings e.g.
"cat > dog / rat" needs to become "cat > dog / MOUSE"
Now, I have a 2 column list to specify the changes that need to be made. My solution WOULD be to use the SUBSTITUTE formula to individually replace each word/phrase with its equivalent change e.g.
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A1,B1,C1),B2,C2),B3,C3),B4,C4)
Although this method works perfectly, I suspect that this will exceed excel's limitations as I have about 1,000 rows that would need to be included in the formula.
Does anyone know of a way that I can achieve my this? Basically changing the contents of cell A1 with a vlookup/index find and replace method. Please find an example document attached.
I would ideally prefer a formula, although if you can guide me through a macro this would also be very appreciated.
Many thanks,
J
