trying to total two columns, one with room types and the other column with the date that it was last deep cleaned...this is what I've come up with but keep getting 0 for the total. Any guidance on where to look?

what did you came up with? assuming A2:A10 contains room types, B2:B10 contains the dates, you want room types "Presidential" & dated 4 Aug 2013, try:this is what I've come up
=COUNTIFS(A2:A10,"Presidential",B2:B10,--"4Aug2013")
or:
=COUNTIFS(A2:A10,"Presidential",B2:B10,DATE(2013,8,4))
you could also refer to a cell where say E1 is "Presidential" & F1 is the date:
=COUNTIFS(A2:A10,E1,B2:B10,F1)
