Excel Takes Too Long Calculating for no reason

If formulas such as counta and countif count from the selected cells, whether they are hidden or not; why does excel recalculate every time I filter anything?

I usually have to turn my formulas to manual or I go nuts when I'm looking through with the filter, but I don't understand what it's calculating anyway.
