Sumifs function not working

Hi,

I don't know why sumifs is not working with this formula:

=SUMIFS(B3:B7,E3:E7,O5,E3:E7,O4)

Cell O4 = M
Cell O5 - C

Cells B3:B7 = 35,25,25

E3:E7 = this is where i put "M" or "C"

it's not working, is still get 0 instead of 85. is there any one can point out the problem???

SUMIFIS (and countifs) does an AND criteria.
It's looking for any call that meets BOTH criterias.
It's not possible for a cell to = both M and C

To do OR,

Try this

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIF(E3:E7,O4:O5,B3:B7))

it should be M and C. and why not can't have both criteria?

Jonmo your formula is working fine. but if it is ok, I need some explanations for better understanding

That's what sumifs is looking for.
It's evaluating each cell individually one at a time and testing if it meets BOTH criteria.
It's impossible for a single cell to meet both criteria.

The sumproduct formula is basically creating 2 seperate SUMIF formulas, one for O4 and one for O5.
Then it sums the result of those 2 sumif formulas.
