    Excel, last names, other names

Hello, I'm a teacher. We are trying to put together a spreadsheet where a teacher opens it, enters a student's name (for lunch detentions), and then based on the student's last name, the administrator's name is populated in another cell. This is important for principals to track and follow up with students. Is there an if, then way to return a name based on a range of last names? For instance, Any last name entered between Ci-Kr would populate a certain name.detention.JPG

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi

You can do it with nested if-functions, but it will be a bit complicated if there are many ranges or if they change often.
I suggest you use the true version of vlookup instead.

Like I did in the attached spreadsheet.
