Excel formula to find mean value excluding highest and lowest values based on count

    Hello,
I would like some help with writing a formula to do the following:

    Example (two columns):

    Type------Value
    A----------1
    B----------10
    A----------4
    A----------3
    A----------5
    B----------1

...etc. (The table will go up to 20 values, but in some cases will contain less)

I would like to build one formula to accomplish the following:

Calculate the mean of the type A values, without the two hightest and two lowest values if count is greater less than or equal to 10, or without the highest and the lowest value if count is less than 10.

So basically, I need the mean value of all the A's (I won't be able to sort them or anything, they need to remain in the same order), but excluding the 2 highest and the two lowest values UNLESS the number of values is less than 10, then I only need to exclude the highest and the lowest value before calculating the mean value.

(I would also need to do this for type B, but obviously it would be the exact same.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
