well for office working I wanted to categorize every account for example
we have something like this account no 1000 to 5000 will always be currency account and from 5001 to 10000 will be currency account
so without doing look up or filter or macro i wanted to create a formula which will lookup the value post the type of account
anyway manoj sir has been given a solution using if statement i will take it

Re: alternative to lookup function and filter

wow...no sample...no explanation of expected results area.., no reason for not using look-up functions, even though a simple lookup would have shortened the accepted formual by 25% and increased the speed by about 30%,,,,amazing!
A picture may be worth a thousand words, BUT, a sample Workbook is worth a thousand screenshots!
-Add a File - click advanced (next to quick post), scroll to manage attachments, click, select add files, click select files, select file, click upload, when file shows up at bottom left, click done (bottom right), click submit
-To mark thread Solved- go top of thread, click Thread Tools, click Mark as Solved

Re: alternative to lookup function and filter

On what basis is this solved?
If you have not recieved ( or found on your own an answer that is usable /acceptable), why mark it solved ?
If you need to match data to other data, you are going to have to use some sort of look-up method, INDEX/MATCH is probably one of the fastest ways, but some VBA quicksort/search method may work as well..
    @ FDibbins - I know I said I would shut up, but ...
