Add cases opened and closed for each month and specifics about the cases.

I am stuck.
What formula do I use to add how many cases are opened for each month? I want the data to pull form the Active sheet and send to the Data sheet as I plan to make tables and/or graphs with that data. Also what would be the best function for gathering the other data listed in the data sheet?

I'd like to have a monthly tally for cases opened which would be to take the data from the "Active sheet" in column F and have the tally show in the "Data Sheet" in row 2. Now that being said if there is another way to get to the monthly tally I am all ears. I also need to have monthly tally's for:
Region: "Active sheet" column C;
Language: "Active sheet" column E;
and so on to match all the titles in the "Data sheet" in column A.

Does that make sense?
