Counting specific occurrences of data in a row

Hi there

I'm hoping someone can steer me on the right path with this.

I'm pretty much a novice at Excel and I'm struggling with the following:

I am working at putting together a rota and want it to do several calculations for me to make life a little easier! Here is a screenshot to show how it looks:

I want the occurrences of the following letters to be counted up from B2:Z2 (and so on) and the total divided by 2 (to give an hourly figure): M, TB, T, L, U, C, 1

I want the total to be included in column AE.

Can someone share their wisdom please?

How would I get all of those letter occurrences to add together into column AE in one formula? So all the occurrences of the letters given are counted and added together.

Not quite Glenn. I am trying to count all letters listed at the start of the thread, excluding A, S and H, and get them to total in column AE.

Example:

A A A T T A L L L L

I want the T's and L's counted, added together then divided by 2 (to give an hourly figure).

Hope this makes sense.

That looks to have done the trick Glenn. I tweaked it to get row by row total.

It's a good point about posting the sheet. I will do this in future as it no doubt won't be the last time I look for help!
