How to create custom inputs on a chart?

Hi guys,

I'm having a very annoying issue today. I am trying to create a chart with custom inputs, and by that I mean you can change the x-axis value, which then grabs the data pertaining to that x axis value. I have a bunch of dates and I want the user to be able to change which data the chart displays by simply entering a start and end date. This way a user can view data from Jan 2007 - Dec 2013 if they want or from Jan 2007 - Jan 2008 if they want to. Is there a way to do this?
