    How do I disable Personal.xls from auto starting

    Hi Guys

    I use Excel in my job a lot and we have one sheet that requires macros that are on Personal.xls. My issue is the Personal.xls opens eveytime we open excel. How do I stop excel from opening this sheet when its not required and is it possable to run these macros withoun opening the personal sheet in the first place.

    Your post is a rule #1 violation; the title is meaningless.

    A better title would be something like "disable automatic open on excel startup", because if you search it, you'll quickly find helpful suggestions.

    Thanks for the Feed back Ben my bad but try as I might I cant see how to delete this thread or how to change its tital so could you help on this.

    Generally we prefer people not delete threads once they've got what they need, just mark them solved (also in the Advanced options, as a dropdown).

    Disable automatic open on excel startup

    Hi Guys

    You should hit F5, because chances are I've edited this post at least 5 times.

    if only one sheet needs the macros you oughta put them in that sheet not in the personal macro workbook which is specifically for macros you always want available ;-)

    then it is what it is. you can't run the macros without personal.xls being open and it will open whenever you start excel. why is that a problem-it shouldn't interfere with normal use of excel?

    Apon reflection the macros are ran on a sheet that is produced by our inventory system that is access based but spits a report out in excel format so I believe this is the reason the macros are handled on the Personal.xls sheet. But it is very anoying having this sheet open every time excel opens it would be handy if it could open hidden I use excel 2000 (I work for a very modern Company)

    Is it possible to run a macro when excel starts so as Personal.xls only opens if a certian excel document is opening.

    It doesnt interfere with the running of excel it is howevr very anoying especially if I am running more than one encarnation of excel having to answer the dialogue box question every time to say no dont open or the task bar fills with extra buttons.

    Unhide Personal, then save it as an add-in with a different name, someplace where you can find it. Then delete Personal, and load the add-in when you need it.

    Hey Guys yes unfortunatly we need the macros that reside on Personal aydeegee But I think I will investigate the option that shg mentioned that might do the trick.
