Excel 2013 Control+Shift+Direction Pad issue

Hello,

I just started a new job and the computer has office 2013 installed. In prior versions of excel, I have used the Control+Shift+Direction to highlight an array of data within excel. Oddly, whenever I try it on this version, it isn't as quick. If I do it quickly (like I am used to from excel 2007) then it seems to just do the same thing as Shift+Direction (highlights one cell at a time). I have to hold down the buttons for about a second before it actually works.

Does anybody know what the cause of that would be? I have switched keyboards.

I know it might sound ridiculous, but I have become so quick at excel that having to wait a second throws me off.
