I am trying to make use of weekday function by putting a date in one cell and asking for the weekday number with the format.
=weekday(A1,2) in a cell D2
Say in A1 cell I have a date put in as 7/15/2014.
However, I am obtaining error as #VALUE! and I don't know the reason behind it.
There is no error for me. I get 2 as a result. Make sure that the date in A1 is actually a real date and not text.

is it possible that it's not a real XL Date?....it may look like a date but that can just be formatting....
right click on the cell and go to formatting and choose number and it should look like 41232 or something like that....otherwise, it's not a real XL Date and the WeekDay function wouldn't work
