Cell reference a workbook even when workbook is closed

Hi,

I'm trying to reference a cell from another workbook using a cell. It should be able to reference even when the workbook is closed.

for example
Say i had 3 workbooks called, workbook 1, workbook 2 and workbook 3
in workbook 1, cell a2, i want it to contain the details of cell a2 from either workbook 2 or workbook 3 (this should be determined with whats written in cell a1. so in workbook 1 cell a1 i write 'workbook 2', it should get the data for workbook 1, cell a2 from workbook 2, cell a2)

In the attachment, there's a worksheet called master stats. within the masterstats worksheet, cell a3 references the different worksheets. what im trying to do is keep this same concept but move the master stats worksheet into a separate workbook, but i would like to reference the workbook using a cell even whilst the workbook is not open, as there will be many workbooks like the one attached. i hope this makes sense.

You can reference the external workbooks without them being open.
