Find and replace a series of numbers for dummy variables

Working on a project that requires I take a data set and break up coded variables and make them into dummy variables. Its a fairly large amount of data.

Essentially its a list of jobs. Each job has a numerical code attached to it between 1 and 987. I need to break them into smaller groups and make dummy variables out of them, like 17 through 77 equals 1, all others equal zero.

Is there a way to do that with the find and replace tool? Or any other way? I have 4500 data points that need to be sorted 8 different ways.

You could create a two-column lookup table.
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

Re: Find and replace a series of numbers for dummy variables

Just going to post this in case anyone else ever looks for the same thing.

The best way I found was to filter the column> number filter> between. punch in my range (less than or equal to 77 and greater than or equal to 17)
Change all the values of those numbers to 1. Hit clear under the filter tab. Go back and filter the column again, select everything except 1. Change the value of the remaining numbers to zero and then press clear.

May not be the most elegant way of doing it but it got my through the project.

    Thanks for the help guys.
