Transposing a large amount of data

I have two cloumns of data with about 2000 cells of information each. What I'm trying to do is copy and paste those columns of data using the transpose function to change them from vertical columns to horizontal rows. I can do this no problem with about 250 cells maximum, but trying with any higher number of cells give me the error message... "We can't paste because the Copy area and paste area aren't the same size." Is this a limitation that can be overcome some how? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your response. I am using Excel 2013, but I was able to fix the problem by turning off compatibility mode.
