    Automatic calculation of pasted formulas

    Hi

    Pls look at attached spreadsheet. I have a formula in cell A1 to paste text together in order to arrive at "=1+2". I then Paste Value cell A1 into Cell A2. When I do so, cell A2 now contains "=1+2" but it doesn't return the value "3" unless I go into the cell and hit <Return>. Is there a way for me to make cell A2 automatically return "3" when I Paste Value without having to go into the cell and hit <Return>?

    I am doing it this way as I need to create many lines of formulas conveniently by pasting text together.

    thanks

    The values represented in A1 and A2 are formatted as text and therefore will never result in a numerical value.

    Re: Automatic calculation of pasted formulas

    Thanks for the reply.

    I tried to write a macro that will go to the cell, enter F2 followed by <Enter> key. This will convert the text to formula. With a macro I could automatically do this for many cells.
    However, when I record the macro for this first cell, the command text goes like this:

    ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=1+2"

    It included the text "=1+2" which means I cannot duplicate this command to automatically convert text in other cells to formulas. Would appreciate any suggestions.

    You can't do the same with cell A1 because it is made up of text strings.

    Thanks but I still have some difficulty running this. Will try other options.

    Don't know if this addresses your question or not, but with A2 selected try this in Name Manager:

    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    then in A2

    Formula: copy to clipboard
