Open Excel file using Task Scheduler as Read-Only

Hi all, should be quite a simple one but I'm struggling and most of the results on the web are very unhelpful.

I have a macro spreadsheet that I run on demand every day at 7am. When I come in at 8am I often see that it is sat telling me 'Your Spreadsheet.xls is locked for editing by User' and gives me the option to open Read-Only. I 100% want to run it Read-Only but can't find the correct switches/arguments to achieve this..

Using Windows Server 2008, the Action is to start a program "\\ourserver\sharedfolder\myfile.xls"

I tried putting r (no quotes or anything) in the arguments box also tried putting /r after the .xls and made no difference either.

    Hope someone can help

    Thanks
    John

You are probably requiring a command line switch to open Excel the way you want. Excel's command line switches can be found here: https://support.office.com/en-za/art...2-53bd4bc10725

Re: Open Excel file using Task Scheduler as Read-Only

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've looked into your recommendation but I wanted to avoid adding more files (bat, cmd) to get this working so I've instead demoted the permissions for the user to have read-only access.

Thanks for the reply anyway, appreciated.
