I'm looking for a simple solution to display common information to several users (conceptually like a dashboard, but not that complicated). Here's what i'd like to achieve:
- Have a table of information saved on a spreadsheet. Approx. 6 columns X 25 rows.
- Save this spreadsheet on a server location (location remains fixed). The spreadsheet may be updated from time to time though.
- Show this table on a user's desktop (something like an active desktop linking to the spreadsheet saved as a webpage, or a sticky note, or wallpaper ... or in some other manner).
- The objective is that the user's get a display of some sorts on their desktop, without needing to open any application/windows to look for it.
- The display should refresh at some frequency (or not, as long as it does so once when the users logs in would suffice); as the spreadsheet is unlikely to be updated more frequently.
- The user does not need to interact with data for now. So just a static display would suffice.
- I could probably achieve this by saving the sheet as a webpage, and then do a bookmark on the browser; but would like to avoid requiring the user to open an application to get the information. as i said, the user should get the info without looking for it.
All users have Windows 7 Enterprise and Excel 2010.
Any ideas?
