Excel crashing all too often Is it Inquire _ VBA code to replace "clean Excess Cell Format

    Hi Guys

OK could be me but Excel crashing a lot and freezing. Yesterday I would go to open another copy of Excel and on clicking the lot would go. On enquiring about Excel crashing I got the advice from MS to close active Com Add-ins. I am only using one Inquire which I use to clean Excess Cell Formatting. IE. Ctrl-End will show me one million. I can set this back to the correct place using Inquire.

If I turn it off which I will do now then please advise me if there is a reliable alternative or perhaps a VBA routine I could run assigned to a button in the quick access tool bar. Sometimes (well often) I make a mistake and have a sheet where Ctrl-End will take me to the bottom. I know I must improve my coding but something to last till I am more proficient, please.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

Copy all sheets from crashing workbook into a new a workbook, copy in all modules too. Sounds the file is corrupt.

I don't know whether it is Inquire or not that is the problem. Microsoft has a format cleaner available at:http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/downl....aspx?id=21649

It can be difficult to tell if Excel has crashed or is just busy. If you get the "Not Responding" message it could mean that Excel is just busy and hasn't really crashed. I have found that using File Preview in Windows Explorer/File Explorer and cause Excel to freeze. If that is the case go to Windows Explorer or File Explorer and turn off the File Preview and the Excel file should become unfrozen.

If you have a backup of your Excel file, I would try that before doing anything else. If the backup works, then update it with the new data. If it doesn't work, did you add anything to Excel or install new software since the backup? Those additions or changes could be the cause.

If you go the copy route, copy the vba modules over to the new workbook then small amounts of data to start then test if the workbook works properly. If it does, select the data (not the whole worksheets) and copy and paste into the new workbook. You don't want to copy a corruption if at all possible.

    Good luck.

    Hi Guys

I will keep looking into this and I will copy the pages into another workbook thought the bug may be in the macros. Ahhhh. That's life i suppose.
