problems with =DATEVALUE... how to convert text to readable format, or syntax issues?

    Hi all,

I have pasted data from a data file to a master file but the dates didn't transfer to recognized Excel dates with a serial code. My entire G and H columns are filled with dates and when I try to run the =DATEVALUE function on either date gives me an error #VALUE as you can see below

I even tried putting it in a simple 01-jan-2014 format and it still gives me the #VALUE error but it returns a value on a guide I found on Google. If you view the image below, the guide shows on the 4th row of Source Date the same format as me and shows that it is supposed to work....

can someone tell me why my =datevalue function doesnt work? or how I can convert the text i have into an appropriate format if it is not if that is the case?

    Thank you anything helps

Can you upload a sample workbook of how your data is imported?

It appears as though Excel is already recognizing the values you have in columns D and E as dates. This:

entered into F3 returns 10, which is the number of network days between the two specified dates.
