    Track Productivity

    Hello,

I want to create a spreadsheet to track how many units each employee is completing a day. I also want to be able to detailed how many orders we had versus the amount the complete team did at the end of the day. I initially thought of setting the day on the rows and the employees names on the columns but I don't think that's the best way to get it to work in the long run. Which would be the best day to set up my spreadsheet? Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

    Re: Track Productivity

    i would setout as

    Date | Name | Amount | Team

Then you can use a pivot table to summarise the data

But it depends on how you are capturing the data

    Re: Track Productivity

Well done for thinking about this before diving in. I'm constantly surprised at the number of requests for solutions to problems which could have been avoided if the design of the data had been considered first rather than what any report should look like.

Without a doubt you should capture your data in a regular normalised 2 dimensional table where each column records a different type of 'thing' (and don't confuse the different values the 'thing' may have with the thing itself and create extra columns for the values)

So from your description your data should consist of the following column labels and maybe others. I'll assume by 'unit' you mean a single order but if you mean a quantity then you'll need to add an additional column for the Qty

    Date
    Order #
    Staff Name or ID Ref
    Team Name
    Order Value

Each row is then a complete order record. The Staff and Team Name columns could be drop down data validation cells allowing you to pick names from a list. Once you have this table then it should be a trivial matter to analyse it with a Pivot Table or user defined reports.
