RAID 1 Harddrive Failure Excel Corrupt after Data Recovery

    Hi guys,

I need an expert on this one. This is a very hard to crack problem for me so far.

Our server has a simple RAID 1 setup and one of the hard disk failed after a power outtage. (no bad sector)
The disk can not be seen under Windows but with a special software, I was able to see the data.

Here is what I did, after doing a Chkdsk /f, some of the important data was lost. It's gone.

I did a data recovery process using a software and I was able to see the lost files. (multiple files for the same file with different dates)

However, those important files show gibberish when open. It can no longer be read properly.

I tried to use all the available resources to repair it, but failed so far.

It says that the OLE header and structure of the XSL was corrupt.

My question: Is there a way to ever see those files? Or are they gone forever?
What caused this corruption when there was no bad sector?

Thank you so much folks, really appreciate your thoughts!!!

Maybe (one copy of) the data is fine and the RAID controller is hosed. It should invisibly switch over to the backup drive and sound an audible alarm when one of the disks fail.

Unfortunately, that disk doesn't contain the files I need. Whatever the reason might be, I think the RAID setup or controller was already corrupt when it all happened.

That would be RAID 0, then.

Well, I guess so since the RAID 1 didn't work as it supposed to.

But that's not important anymore. Anyone knows how to get those files to be read again?
