    Column Headings Disappear when Scrolling

Not necessarily a problem, but a strange behavior: in one of my workbooks, when I scroll down, my column headings disappear. Not the Column Headers in Row1, but the Headings (A,B,C, etc) in the row above 1. My range is a Table, and I notice when I scroll down my Headers also change from Blue to Gray. What's going on here?

Structured Table. By design so you see your own column headings rather than A, B, C, etc.

I thought that might be the case. Where do I find the setting to turn that feature on or off?

Use Freeze Panes, Top Row if the table headers are in the top row. This will keep the worksheet column headers visible if you have chosen to show column headers for the worksheet in the Excel Display Options.

    NewDoverman,
Thanks. Apparently the disappearing A, B, C etc is a "feature" of Tables I never noticed before. Confusing if you're not expecting it. Surely there's got to be somewhere to turn off that "feature"?

BUT WAIT! I just created a table in a different workbook. When I scroll this table my "A, B, C" headings don't disappear. What gives?

There is nothing to turn off that "feature" built into Excel.

If the table headers are not in the first row, Excel's column headers remain visible but the table headers do not.

Re: Column Headings Disappear when Scrolling

See the pictures. That's the exact opposite of what you said. My table headers are NOT in the first row. Before scrolling, Excel's column headers and the table headers were visible. After scrolling Excel's column headers are not visible. This behaviour is different from other tables I've created, whether the table headers are in the first row or not. If it acts differently in different tables, there must be a way to turn it off or on.

That doesn't work on my computer.

How did you create that screen? I only get that when downloading an Excel file from the internet. Note the position of the formula bar.

Re: Column Headings Disappear when Scrolling

The screenshots were made using FastStone Capture. The workbook with the disappearing Excel column headings is a standard-variety .xlsx workbook, and I don't see anything that's set different in it, but the Table in it behaves differently. I'd love to send it to you but it's HUGE.

But I think I may have spotted one thing; if I click outside the table, then scroll, my Excel column headers stay. If I click inside my table and scroll, they disappear. Maybe that's the difference.

The clicking in the table is the difference. I just tried it with a table of some 1600 rows and the headers stay if I click in the table and disappear if I click outside the table with or without a blank row above the table.

Thanks for the confirmation. I don't mind differences when I can understand why. Turns out I learned something new today; that always makes the day more worthwhile. Thanks for helping.
